Advice and Guidance
The Animal Welfare Act 2006 makes it clear that owners of animals must provide five welfare needs:
Need for a suitable environment
Need for a suitable diet
Need to be able to exhibit normal behaviour patterns
Need to be housed with, or apart, from other animals
Need to be protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease
Reporting an animal welfare concern
We believe all animals should live an enriched and fulfilling life.
Disappointingly there are occasions when this doesn’t happen.
If you believe an animal crime is in place and the suspects are present call the police immediately on 999.
If you believe there is an animal welfare concern please contact the RSPCA National Society by clicking here.
The RSPCA Inspectorate, who are part of the main RSPCA, investigate animal welfare concerns. They have specially trained staff who are able to carry out a number of functions such as investigate an animal welfare crime, remove an animal from an area/location and prosecute where there has been a criminal offence.
